There are around 350 bee species in New England, the majority of which are solitary and do not produce honey. Please use the pictures below or this detailed sheet to help you determine the species of bee or wasp that you are concerned about.

If you find a honey bee swarm around your home or neighborhood:
  • Don’t panic – the honey bees are not trying to harm you–they’re only trying to find a new home!
  • Stay away – don’t intentionally aggravate the bees.
